Free Music Friday is a new series at the American Folk Art Museum. The first performance is A Musical Tribute to Broadway, featuring both classic and contemporary favorites, plus behind-the-scenes stories from actors and singers who have appeared in shows including Phantom of the Opera; Wicked, Mamma Mia, West Side Story, The Producers and Shrek. The FREE performance is 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 [...] It’s called the ”Sound Playground,” and it shows kids the musical possibilities of everyday objects, at Carnegie Hall. Mark Stewart and Rob Schwimmer of Polygraph Lounge, and the ”musical MacGyvers” take things like a baseball bat, a metal bowl, a bouncy ball and a rubber glove, and turn them into a musical instrument. Kids will experience traditional, classical, and zany instruments. Take the kids to one of these family-oriented festivities on Saturday, December 12th: The 14th Street Y has a free storytelling afternoon of Hanukkah stories that they are calling “Storatelling”. The event is 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. [...] The Third Street Music School Settlement was founded in 1894 to offer musical training to hardscrabble Lower East Side immigrants.
