Free Italian cooking classes, video workshops and food and wine tastings are being offered at the Big Apple’s Culinary Institute, on Wednesday and January 13 and January 14. The event is being sponsored by the makers of Grana Padano cheese, that wonderful, robust cheese equally good grated over pasta and just nibbled with a piece of good Italian bread. It’s called the Grana Padano Virtual Chef Series, and it’s a perfect fill-in for those of us feeling deprived and lonely without the Food Network on cable television.
The free tasting of the foods and wines from a number of Italian companies at the Italian Culinary Academy is 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 13. Reservations are a must. Email amaxwell@frenchculinary.com to reserve a space.
Also, on Sunday, January 17th, there’s a cook-off. Chefs from around the world will be cooking the same dish— Tagliatelle al Ragu Bolognese —on the same day via teleconference, using Grana Padano cheese, of course, since they are the event sponsor.
